This post is for the IT folk, though we made an easy to follow video for Evidence Officers too. If you have any questions give us a call.
PMI recommends that you encrypt any network connections that your Microsoft SQL Server install has. This recommendation comes from our friends in cyber security investigation and enforcement.
By default the TCP/IP connection from your clients to SQL Server is not encrypted. Microsoft likely has this as the default in order to support older clients and applications. However, unchecked that leaves you open to malicious users that may be using a packet sniffer to read your data directly off the network. YouTube has thousands of videos demonstrating how to use an application like Wireshark or dsniff to do just that.
You can avert that crisis with a few simple clicks of your mouse. IT folk and Evidence folk alike don’t worry. We put it together in a 1 minute video that everyone can follow.
Any questions, call me. We can take care of this for you if you would feel better to have us do it.
